Project

Jürgen von der Mark lives in Baden, in southwest Germany where he produces his own Pinot Noir there as well as working as a consulting oenologist for other estates in the region. It was only natural that in establishing our own “winery without vineyards” that we would rely on the structure and experience at hand.

We seek grape growers with whom we can work hand in hand. We select well-suited vineyards and discuss their cultivation management with our partners and agree on the time of harvest. The grapes are then vinified according to our stipulations.

All of our partners share a tremendous respect for the vines and the soil and it is this that receives our utmost attention. In this way grapes are allowed to ripen which yield authentic wines that reflect their origin and exhibit character; wines which are compelling due to their straightforward honesty.

Our project was initiated in 2007 in Ortenau. This area represents the essence of the Baden winegrowing region. It is home to our favourite grape varieties in the Burgundy family as well as Riesling. Old vines planted on steep south-facing sites with primary rock or loess soils are the prime elements of our wines. The vintners of Ortenau, their vines and the micro-climate are closely bound and dedicated wine cultivation is a matter of honour here. Grape growers traditionally deliver their fruit to cooperatives, two of which have also become our partners.

Our assortment of wines was expanded in 2008 and now includes a Rheingau Riesling which we produce together with Schloss Schönborn in Hattenheim.

A project that was born from friendship and is carried by a love of wine continues to thrive. We hope you are just as interested as we are in the developments that the coming vintage will bring.
