Guido Walter
(Wine Merchant / WSET Diploma)
I was born in 1967, an average vintage, unless you are a fan of Yquem. I spent my youth in Munich, the German capitol of art and beer, and I have remained faithful to this beautiful city.
I attended a boarding school in the Palatinate where I experienced various education philosophies. It was there that I learned to excel in the subjects of “Palatinate Wine Culture” and “Epicurean Pleasures”. Upon graduation I was eager to begin my journey in the world. Similar to the maturation of a wine in cask that requires time to achieve depth and harmony, I was determined to sharpen my senses and broaden my horizons.
I was exposed to Italian culture and lifestyle in Florence and trained my eyes for fine details in Milan. My view of the big picture was expanded in New York. In Hong Kong, I discovered the excitement of international trading and in Paris I learned the art of diplomacy. Frequent returns to Munich and philosophical studies with the Jesuits brought structure to my questions about life. This was followed by travels throughout the world to deepen my understanding and to discover wine. This led me to London, where I am now striving for the highest attainable academic accreditation in the wine world.
Last, but not least, it was through the birth of my son that I have won a feeling of home and have achieved maturity. His thirst for knowledge inspires me daily and demonstrates that learning and marvelling never end and that miracles can happen on a daily basis.
